Meniscus ; They are moon-shaped structures in the knee joint between the cartilage surfaces of the thigh and tibia bones facing each other. It absorbs shock by acting like a pillow and prevents the cartilage surfaces from rubbing against each other. It also has very important tasks such as increasing stability during joint movement and helping with lubrication.
Meniscus tears can also occur in anterior cruciate ligament injuries. If the knee is locked together with pain, a meniscus tear should also be suspected.
Rotation, shearing and compression forces that occur in the knee during injury can cause cartilage surface injuries.
Depending on the severity of the anterior cruciate ligament injury, the pain and swelling experienced in the knee may pass for a few days. Knee movements may become normal and pain may disappear while walking, but when it is desired to start sports again; difficulties in running, stopping and turning movements are experienced. Along with the feeling of insecurity, there is a feeling of discharge in the knee.
